Our locking systems come equipped with various features that enable them to be adapted to scenarios where a flexible level of protection may be required.

One of these key features is the public and private mode settings available on our smart locks.

Let’s explore the difference between public mode and private mode and discuss which applications are better suited to the different settings.

Introduction to Public Mode and Private Mode Settings

Enabling the perfect balance of security and accessibility, the public mode and private mode settings on our locking systems allow for a flexible approach to access control to suit different requirements and levels of security.

So, what exactly are the key differences between the two settings?

Public Mode – When set to public mode, the locking system will, initially, be unlocked until a code is entered to engage the locking mechanism. Perfect for environments where large amounts of people require quick access to an area, this setting is beneficial for applications such as:

  • Gyms and swimming centres
  • Education
  • Commercial offices
  • Leisure facilities

By removing the complexity of bottlenecks caused by tricky access procedures in high foot traffic areas, public mode provides the ideal combination of convenience and free movement whilst maintaining the security benefits of being able to easily lock the lock when necessary.

Private Mode – Once set to private mode, the locking system remains locked at all times, only allowing access when the correct code is entered providing controlled access at all times and an added layer of security.

Private settings are essential in applications, including –

  • Employee Lockers
  • Specialised Enclosures
  • Asset Security
  • Medical Supplies

Private mode setting enhances the security of your locking system, providing valuable protection to restricted areas, confidential information and personal belongings.

Selecting the Right Mode

Choosing between the two settings depends on the nature of the establishment and the level of security required.

For environments where the emphasis is on easy access and ease of movement, public mode is often used.

On the other hand, in applications where ongoing individual access is required, private mode is essential.

By selecting the correct setting for your locking system, you can optimise security and accessibility to create a more efficient environment.
